1.国内现状
目前，我国橡胶空气弹簧主要侧重于铁路火车和造纸机的配套与应用，用于汽车上(特别是豪华大客和载重汽车)的橡胶空气弹簧在国内的研究起步较晚。国外的汽车工业较我国相对发达，故其设备、零部件的配套生产技术较国内也。在欧美等发达，空气弹簧在轿车上的普及率已高达95%以上。目前国产空气弹簧由于受种种原因影响，至今还未能普遍推广。
2.发展趋势
橡胶空气弹簧是当今汽车装备发展、配套的必然趋势，特别是在大型客车和载重汽车上尤为突出。传统的载重汽车一般都采用钢板弹簧或油气弹簧作为减震元件，但随着当前世界汽车工业朝着高速、高性能、舒适、维修方便的方向发展，钢板和油气弹簧已越来越不适应其发展。
橡胶空气弹簧在我国汽车工业领域的拓展应用非常广阔。我国汽车年产量为325万辆左右，大中型客车和载重汽车的产量不到总产量的1/6，轿车、轻型客车和载重汽车占年产量的275万辆左右，特别是在轿车空气弹簧上的发展空间更大，如果再加上我国汽车年产量的逐年递增，它的开发市场更为广阔了。橡胶空气弹簧的生产技术将朝减震性能强、使用寿命长、安全可靠的方向发展。
